Masterclean® are specialists in leather cleaning In Devon and beyond, our technicians come fully equipped to clean and restore your leather upholstery, from general grubbiness, to the dirtiest of leather items.Unfortunately the consumer is often told that leather is' low maintenance', some are informed to wipe their furniture over with soapy water and everything will be fine, unfortunately this is not quite true. From experience the words 'low maintenance' can often be interpreted as 'no maintenance'.
Over 90% of leather on the market today is protected or finished leather, it has a durable pigmented finish which acts as a barrier, but it is not indestructible. This finish allows consumers to attempt cleaning with almost anything and get what looks to be a satisfactory result. Of course it's never that simple, and in fact the finish is slowly but surely being broken down, leading to the pigment cracking and/or peeling. Incorrect maintenance leads directly to the restoration or replacement of your expensive leather furniture.
Included in the 'finished' leather group are Semi-Analine, Finished Split, Bi-Cast and Rub Off (antique effect) leathers. The remaining 10% are made up of 'Unfinished Leathers' consisting of Aniline, Pull Up and Oily / Waxy Pull Up. Unfinished leather has a very thin finish or no finish whatsoever, making them very absorbent, they mark and stain very easily.
In fact, some leathers are completely the opposite of low maintenance. If you are the proud owner of a nubuck or suede leather suite we suggest you keep it in a locked room and try not to use it, these leathers are extremely porous, absorbing stains very quickly and easily, hence they are very difficult to clean.
As leather becomes increasingly dirty, cracks & creases become more prominent, dirt then becomes ingrained in the leather making it look very dirty and worn. Masterclean® technicians will thoroughly clean this dirt away, transforming its appearance. A protection cream is then applied which re-instates the smell of leather into new and old items of furniture. The protection cream is also a conditioner that will add a protective layer to leather that will repel stains. It also protects the surface from general wear and tear.
Four kinds of soiling need to be addressed when cleaning leather furniture, atmospheric soiling such as dust and airborne pollutants. Common soiling, every day dirt and grime carried into your home in various ways on a daily basis, which then gets deposited to your upholstery via bodily contact, animals, children etc. Inks & Dyes, newspapers being one of the main contributors here, along with clothes such as denim jeans & shirts, leaky pens, and of course, young children using your suite as a blank canvas! Oils & grease, hair and hand oils are easily deposited onto arms and head cushions, as are oils and grease from the coats of animals.
| Regular maintenance of your upholstery is essential for long life and protection of your investment. The facts are, clean and protect every 6 to 18 months and your leather upholstery will look far better for far longer giving you many years of service.
